Nuestra Comunidad Sana
Nuestra Comunidad Sana, Our Healthy Community, provides health promotion services to the Columbia Gorge Latino community through several programs:
La Voz Latina/Latino Voice of the Mid-Columbia and Raices/Roots are community organizing/advocacy initiatives that use community leadership to address community concerns including health, mental health and quality of life issues. Building on the strengths and natural leadership of Latinos residing in the Columbia Gorge, these projects hope to improve their quality of life.
The Si Se Puede Drug Prevention Coalition gives Hood River County Latino youth and adults an opportunity to live a drug free life. By creating leadership and learning opportunities, our healthy traditions, customs, values, and cultures are maintained and shared.
Health promotion programs like Mensajeras de Esperanza-Messengers of Hope and Pasos a Salud-Steps to Wellness, offer support groups, outreach efforts and education about breast cancer, diabetes, obesity, and HIV/AIDS. We also help people in a variety of ways with their health care appointments.
By providing court-ordered domestic violence intervention, HAPA (Hombres Autoresponsables para Parar el Abuso/Men Responsible for Stopping Abuse), we help men break the cycle of violence.
