Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Columbia Gorge Manager
I grew up in small town Ohio and moved to the Pacific Northwest after graduating college. I came with the intention of doing something to benefit future generations… seems a little broad but, it’s all part of my journey.
Since my arrival in Oregon, I have worked for a variety of non-profit organizations on issues ranging from environmental conservation (where I met my husband) and health care to children’s issues and youth development. For lack of a better term, I am a community organizer! I am truly grateful to be a part of an organization that supports youth (and non-youth) in the understanding that we are all in this together.
I have seen the light go on… when a young person understands that they are valued, that they can make a difference, that they have people to support them and help them create what they envision for themselves and their families. The realization that someone cares enough to spend time, share stories – to simply be there – makes such a difference in the life of a young person. This is what motivates me to do what I do!
For nearly ten years I have directed a community leadership development program for local high school students and I know that given the right guidance and support, young people will choose a positive future for themselves. I believe in the ability of every person to shape his or her community based on the desire for all to succeed.
As Program Manager for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Columbia Gorge, I am part of a team that provides opportunities for children and teens to develop meaningful, lasting, and supportive relationships and to create their brightest possible future.
