Professional Foster Parenting

Open your heart.
Open your home.
Be a Foster Parent.
Professional Foster Family

The teens and kids at The Next Door are in trouble because of their behavior. Most have been abused; most are lonely. They all need a positive adult with the time to give them attention, and the heart to give them love.

Professional foster parents with The Next Door are looking for an opportunity to make a difference, to make the world a better place.

To be a foster parent with The Next Door, you need to have an available room in your home, and everyone in the home (over 16) must pass a criminal background check. Your own children must be over five years old, and you should live in Wasco County or Hood River County.

Foster parents can be single or married, homeowners or renters, living in a house, apartment, or on a farm, living in town or the country.

Professional Foster Parenting for The Next Door is different from being a DHS foster parent. We are a non-profit agency, not a state agency or for-profit business. Our case managers and foster parent trainers have lower caseloads that allow them to spend more time helping you learn to deal with challenging behaviors. We pay better, but we also expect more work from our foster parents.

Our foster parents receive:

  • training and certification as a professional foster parent
  • 24 hour on-call support
  • at least two paid days off each month
  • training meetings every month
  • $40-$65 per child per day, tax-free
  • and the joy of being part of mending lives in big ways.
The Next Door needs foster parents for teens in our Klahre House Alternative School and Day Treatment program. We also need a few foster parents for younger children with more serious mental health challenges.

Sound good? You might be just the right foster parent for one or more of these kids. To find out more, call Heidi Venture at 541-436-0303 today.
