Anger Management Course Starting

A new anger management course at The Next Door focuses on creating awareness of belief systems and barriers to change. You can learn to analyze what you believe to be true about yourself and your life, which is the foundation for behavior. You can learn to identify what hinders making changes in your life; habits, skills, attitudes, beliefs, and expectations.

Courses are starting now in The Dalles. Hood River courses will start by the end of the year.

Klahre House Fashion Show Fundraiser August 18th

Hood River Klahre House Alternative School students are putting together their first ever Fashion Show Fundraiser. The Klahre House is a non-profit program of The Next Door that works with at-risk foster youth to improve themselves and the community.

Students take a strong lead in many projects that incorporate learning and some type of community service. Recently they completed a Watershed Curriculum learning about the local watershed while cleaning up local parks and the Indian Creek trail.

They also worked with a local artist to complete a mosaic in the doorway to the courthouse so that people felt better when entering and leaving. Most of the funding for these projects has to come from grants or donations. Because grants are limited this year, the students decided to take the initiative to raise the money themselves.

The Fashion Show marks the beginning of the student-led fundraising effort. Students also wanted to promote a positive message of sustainability; they are creating all of the outfits out of reused clothing and recyclable materials. They have teamed up with Good Karma Thrift Store which has donated most of the clothing. They are also designing styles using materials such as pop cans, paint brushes, garbage bags, shower curtains and window curtains.

In addition, the students contacted local business owners to put together a silent auction for the evening. DJ Luke King is donating his services that evening to put together tracks for the models on the runway and to get the guests into the music and moving. In addition to promoting sustainable clothing, the students want to promote local businesses and community members.

The show is August 18th at the Best Western Hood River Inn Gorge Room on 1108 East Marina Way. Doors open at 6pm Auction items are provided by Dirty Fingers Bicycle Repair, NY Sub Shop, Farm Stand, Doppio, River Drifters, Wet Planet Whitewater, and local community members. Tickets are $5 at the door or at Good Karma Thrift Store on 1120 Tucker Rd, Hood River.
